Diablo 3 Officially Announced! |
|
Jun 28, 2008 - 12:21 PM - by Ion Silverbolt
|
From Shack News:
After weeks of speculation, Blizzard has officially announced Diablo III at its World Wide Invitational event in Paris.
Said to feature more quests than ever, the anticipated sequel will stick to its roots by being "first and foremost a cooperative game."
Diablo III will feature old standards such as the quotable Deckard Cain, as well as a new version of Tristram and a fresh class dubbed the Witch Doctor. The jungle-born warrior will use ancient tribal magic to cast disease and mind control spells, in addition to utilizing pets such as locust swarms and mongrels.

Open Tech Support celebrates its EIGHTH year online! |
|
Jun 01, 2008 - 10:11 PM - by Canis Lupus
|
Wow, it's been that long already, huh?
Open Tech Support is proud to announce that today marks the eighth year of this site. When OTS was launched in June 2000, it was merely a Blizzard-related technical support site, with no forums, and just a bunch of FAQs compiled. Much has happened since then, and amid the ups and downs that the site has enjoyed and endured, we are still here. Through thick and thin, amid forum politics and drama, our site has survived.
We at Open Tech Support would like to thank our members and visitors who have continued to visit our site through the years, especially to those who have stuck with us from the beginning.
The last two years have not been too kind to this site, but we are still working on revitalizing the site and bringing it back to its former glory. For this, we would need your help.
Open Tech Support is now calling on volunteers who can contribute content to the site (i.e. news, guides, reviews, articles, etc). Help us jumpstart OTS once more!
Thanks again to everyone who visits the site, and we hope to see you again in our ninth, tenth, and twentieth year! (hey, anything's possible!)

TwinTech and Vvikoo overclocked 9600GT - 5-way roundup @ Madshrimps |
|
May 20, 2008 - 12:37 AM - by Canis Lupus
|
The folks at Madshrimps really get it going by posting a 5-way shootout of video cards. Here's a snip:
"For quite some time now NVIDIA has allowed their partners to sell their reference products at overclocked speeds with a custom VGA cooler. Today we take a look at two of such none-reference clocked 9600GT video cards, one from newcomer Vvikoo and one from last year startup, TwinTech. We´ll investigate how the extra clocks make the product stand out compared to 3 other samples we have tested before."
Look exciting. Check it out here.

Booq Boa Laptop Case Review @ Legit Reviews |
|
May 20, 2008 - 12:34 AM - by Canis Lupus
|
The guys at Legit Reviews take a quick look at Booq’s newest briefcase-style case for laptops, the Booq Boa Laptop Case. They have seen evidence of Booq’s high quality and functionality when they reviewed the Python XL Backpack case. Unlike the Booq backpack, the $215 Boa Laptop case is much more conservative case looking more like a traditional laptop carrier. For this price, the Boa has to be special. Here's a snippet:
"Booq calls the Boa 'A travel bag designed especially for frequently-traveling professionals.' This bag has about 2,000 pockets and zippers to store all your favorite gear and gadgets. Actually, we counted 9 zippered pockets, 3 magnetic pockets, with 4 large compartments for your precious cargo. The outer material is made of water-repelling nylon that will keep the moisture out. Inside the Booq Boa, the laptop is housed in its own separate compartment that is lined with protective foam covered in very soft upholstery..."
Hmmm, weird name, that's for sure! Anyway, check out the full review here.

XBox 360 PC Controller Review @ Velocity Reviews |
|
May 20, 2008 - 12:23 AM - by Canis Lupus
|
The guys over at Velocity Reviews have a new review of the XBox 360 PC Controller, a quality console controller that works out of the box on a PC. Here's a snip:
"Although this gamepad costs slightly more than many competitors on the market, it is worth every penny. The development time for the Xbox controller has been significant, and it is no wonder that most other PC gamepad controllers are simply a cheaper clone of the original. The build quality and comfort of the pad are at the top end of most other options on the market, so it would be difficult to find any controller able to beat this device."

Two new skins/styles for Open Tech Support |
|
May 19, 2008 - 5:48 AM - by Canis Lupus
|
This is to let our members and visitors know that OTS now has two additional styles for the site - Perigee and Classic. The former is a "light background" version of our current default style, Apogee, while the latter is an updated version of the original layout for OTS.
You can easily toggle between the three styles by going to the Quick Style Chooser dropdown (if you don't know where it it, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and check the left part).
Please note that I am still working on updating the Classic style, so you may find a few broken images here and there. It should be completely finished later today.
Enjoy!

Sparkle 9800GTX Video Card Review @ Bjorn3D |
|
May 19, 2008 - 4:40 AM - by Canis Lupus
|
The dudes at Bjorn3D try to follow-up their review of the Sparkle 8800GTS with yet another video card whose name shines... the Sparkle 9800GTX. Here's a snip:
"With the GeForce 9-series NVIDIA has created quite a lot of confusion. Instead of a major update it seems that most GeForce 9 cards are merely updated versions of GeForce 8 cards, and unfortunately named so you cannot figure out which card is based on which.
The GeForce 9800GTX is a perfect example. While the name implies that it is an upgrade for the GeForce 8800GTX, which it in a way is, it also is just a higher clocked GeForce 8800GTS 512 MB. You might wonder why NVIDIA didn’t just use GeForce 9 for all their G92 based cards but we may never know why.
If you read our review of the Sparkle 8800GTS 512 MB you know that we really liked the card. So it sounds logical that the Sparkle 9800GTX should be just as good, doesn’t it? Well, that is what we want to find out in today’s review as we test it in a variety of benchmarks."
Sounds interesting. Check out their full review here.
